Health College Connection Program (HCCP)

What is Health College Connection?

Health College Connection Programs I and II are designed to identify, prepare, and increase the number of minority and disadvantaged students entering health care careers.  The aim of HCCP I and II is also to increase the number of health care providers in Alabama’s underserved Black Belt counties.

When and Where are the Programs?

Students will participate in the program for six weeks starting in the month of June each year, in Tuskegee, Alabama, and ending in July. Each day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.

What to Expect?

The TAHEC summer enrichment program will provide hands-on experiences in one of 21 health related disciplines at an appropriate Health Care System. Students will see and hear from medical students and others who can relate their experiences and what it takes to enter health careers.

What will students do in the Program?

Students will be assigned to a health care provider to learn the daily requirements for the particular health care discipline. They (students) will attend enrichment classes, complete and present research projects, travel to and meet representatives from a medical school.

What Support will the Student Receive?

High School students who successfully complete program requirements will receive a $1200 stipend. College students who successfully complete the program will receive $1500 stipend.

Who Should Apply?

Rising high school seniors, high school graduates who have been accepted to college and have a letter of acceptance in a health-related discipline, and college sophomores and juniors majoring in a health-related discipline.  Students must be in good standing at the school and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  Additionally, high school students must have an ACT of 17 or higher.
